Are all members of the Governing Body of the 'anointed'? A scarcity of qualified anointed members is probably the reason why they don't have more than 7 on the Governing Body.

Why only 7 or 8 members on the Governing Body?
by Gilgamesh innow and then someone hears a rumor that the gb might go with 12 members instead of the 8 (or now 7) they currently have.
the value of 12 is understandable, which might even drive the rumors every time they plan to add another 4 or 5 new persons to the gb helpers list.
of course, a rumor that steals their thunder may also promote a delay, even if true.. i'm sure this quote from the watchtower was previously commented upon as a good explanation for the watch tower's best reason to leave the number at 7 or 8:.

Natural Selection in Religions
by Victor ini recently developed an interest in examining the origins of religion.
so what i've gathered so far is this.
the human mind needs to create an explanation and meaning.

"Brain pain". I like that phrase, it's catchy.
It must have happened at some time in our evolutionary development that our increased capacity to think left an uncomfortable void in our minds as respect to the outward world.
I disagree with certain points like,
"All other gods of other tribes are the false gods and the tribe's god is reason to commit genocide of other tribes"
First, there were many religions in the past that accepted the idea of multiple gods even those of their enemies. Whenever there was a war the strongest god - hopefully theirs - would defeat the other nation's god.
As for genocide, that was bound to occur regardless of religion or lack of religion. It's based on a totally different set of behavior. Any commands for genocide that "the god" gave were just projections of the human imagination which seeks to justify non religious behavior by creating divine decrees.

Only watched half of the first video and a minute and a half of the second. Very poor taste. Of course I'm the one who tipped over their table sending crackers and wine to the floor so who am I to judge? -

It's part of our evolutionary heritage to live in close, tightly knit groups that rely on each other for survival. It is in villages and tribes that our psyches prosper. We, in the Western World, are an alienated society with very little or no community ties. Almost any well adjusted group could provide the sense of community that most of us crave for.
It's a pity that the Watchtower and other poisonous religions take advantage of that inborn need to belong to something.

The 50 Ways to Be Disfellowshipped
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering ... what are all of the "official" reasons provided by elders for disfellowshipping someone?
i know the most common reasons are adultery and fornication, but what about the others?
a couple of years ago i traveled back to my hometown` and one of my old jw acquaintances told me that her grown son had been disfellowshipped for refusing to stop associating with another disfellowshipped person.

Disfellowshipping for associating with any df'd person was common knowledge in the 1970s. But starting around 1980 the Watchtower started disfellowshipping for associating with disassociated persons. That is how Raymond Franz was disfellowshipped and they applied it retroactively.
Also, not believing that the Watchtower is God's organization falls into the Apostasy category.

Flipper, "...they've already admitted to it in court."
I hope that information can be made available to other courts with similar lawsuits where the Watchtower lawyers might deny their existence. Do the attorneys in these cases have any cross communication? If not it would be good if they collaborate with each other.

I'm wondering why the Watchtower would even keep any records and not destroy them. All they have to do would be to deny such papers exist. -

Some Questions About Jesus
by Coded Logic inwhy didn't jesus ever write anything?
why are there no letters to jesus?
no painting of jesus from that time?
-
Village Idiot
"Why didn't Jesus ever write anything?"
He never thought he would have followers into the indefinite future. He didn't even think there was going to be a future except for "The kingdom of heaven" which was imminent.
"Why are there no letters to Jesus?"
Why write to him if you were following him?
"No painting of Jesus from that time? No busts or sculptures?"
Paintings and busts are made of historically important people which Jesus was not until the Christian church took control a couple hundred years later. Then they made plenty of paintings of him though none are likely to be realistic.
"How is it that Paul, a man who never met Jesus, became the founder of the Christian church?"
The same way Jesus got his followers. Through force of personality.
"Is Jesus a man turned legend? Or just a myth all together?"
Legend but not myth. These religions are always founded by a charismatic individual who makes a deep impression on his followers.

@ notsurewheretogo,
"These materializations occur by a power which the demons posess of being able to draw out of the mediums body connected streams of the cells of which her body is composed, and then changing the form of these living cells into any desired appearance."
In the world of the paranormal that is known as ectoplasm. The image below shows what these 'spirit mediums' are doing. It's fake of course and the Witchtower falls for it.
